KDDI Corp. announced March 29 that it has developed a communication tool in the shape of a teddy bear that is suitable for use by young children and grandparents living apart from each other. The Comi Kuma device is equipped with 12 built-in sensors and a Bluetooth module that work in sync with a smartphone. If a user kisses a Comi Kuma, for instance, an image showing a bear kissing another bear will appear on the display of a bear belonging to another user. Because it does not use a keyboard or buttons, even people who are not familiar with smartphones can easily send each other greetings or express affection.
